The Fusion Cup has some special rules (the additional challenge and fun) that are different from the standard PvP battle in Pokémon GO:
- Participants need a team of 6 Pokémon (and must pre-tournament). All later needed for fighting Pokémon may only be selected from these 6.
- Games are played in the Super League: only Pokemon up to 1500 CP are allowed in the Cup.
- For the Fusion Cup, teams are only allowed from Pokémon with 2 types (no single types), with the following limitations:
- Cost limitation of the second load attacks: Only Pokémon whose second loading attack is 50,000 stardust or less are allowed. (If the development or Pre-development altimenables of a species in their attack costs only the stadiums whose loading attack is 50,000 stardust or less.)
- Species bans: Azumarill, Meditalis, Jugong and Burma dame (all forms) are not allowed.
